“Shades of Purple”
Water Color Paintings By Winifred J. Pletta

Deceased artist Winifred Pletta, was born in Duesqaine, PA.1916, the daughter of Russian immigrants, Leo and Julia Pietkiewicz. Winifred grew up in Ohio, married an Ohio resident, Edward Pletta, and raised one son, Robert. Winifred had a life long love of the fine arts. Winifred graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art as a non-traditional student. Attending after work and family obligations. Winifred was the first woman to hold the position of senior graphic artist at the Cleveland Illuminating Company, where she was one of 130 graphic artists and the only woman. After retiring from CEI in her sixties, Winifred began her career as a fine artist. Winifred exhibited in the Strongsville, Ohio area, as well as, Frostburg, Md. Winifred’s art career lasted almost twenty years and produced over a hundred paintings. With only a handful of paintings still available for sale, we are pleased to offer Winifred’s last painting, “Shades of Purple”, painted fall of 2000 at the age 84 years old, for $750.00.

Die Bibel - 1879 German Bible
Published by I. Kohler in Philadelphia in 1879.

This old bible is in very fine plus condition. Originally owned by Johannes Engel and family. Listed on a page between old and new testaments is the family birth record. Beginning with Barney born January 29, 1856 and ending with Charles born February 17, 1878, nine listings in all. This bible is beautifully illustrated through out, beginning with a portrait of Martin Luther.

We are pleased to offer two of Richard’s earlier works, “Robin” (turdus migratorius) plate No. IX and “Ruffed Grouse” (bosana umbellus) plate No. XII. Both of these beautiful prints are hand signed by the artist and handsomely framed. These very collectable and desirable are being offered at a price of $465.00 each plus shipping and insurance.

Note: Shipping weight is indicated as 70lbs because these large framed prints are oversized and that is the UPS minimum weight for oversized packages.

Sloan's paintings have been exhibited at the National Geographic Society
's Explorer's Hall, the American Museum of Natural History, the
California Academy of Sciences, the Carnegie Museum, the Royal Scottish
Museum and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. Since 1979, Sloan's work
has been included in 21 "Birds in Art" exhibitions at the Woodson Art
Museum, where he was honored as the museum's Master Wildlife Artist in
1994.

Sloan has been commissioned by the World Wildlife Fund to design postage
stamps and first-day covers for Trinidad, Tobago, Guatemala, the
Philippines and the Falkland Islands. His works appear in many
publications including the magazines Reader's Digest, Wildlife Art and
US Art, and the books The Raptors of Arizona, Wildlife Art: More
Paintings of the Modern Masters and The Best of Wildlife Art, volumes 1
and 2.

Sloan's works are included in the permanent collections of the
Smithsonian Institution, the Illinois State Museum, the Denver Museum of
Natural History and private collections throughout North America, South
America, Europe and Japan.
